We know how important your tax refund is to you. Good news, the IRS started processing tax returns on January 30th. Returns will be processed in the order they were submitted and as soon as your tax return is accepted, we will notify you by email. This notification could take up to 48 hours. The IRS estimates that you should receive your tax refund within 21 days of your return being accepted. The IRS issued more than 9 out of 10 refunds in less than 21 days last year and expects the same results this year. Once your tax return has been accepted by the IRS, you can track the status of your refund by logging into your MyTurboTax account or checking the IRS Where’s My Refund Tool. IRS Update: The IRS announced today that they are experiencing high traffic on their Where’s My Refund Tool. As a result, there may be limited availability during busier periods. The IRS has asked the entire tax industry to remind customers to only check Where’s My Refund once a day. IRS systems are only updated once a day, usually overnight. The bad part is, they know it. So, with that said, i think the reps and who ever else keep responding to this, need to send the VP or whoever the link to this thread to let him know, if he isnt loosing much, he is at least about to loose the people in this thread!. Left up to me, i might make a webpage bashing at TT letting the world know how bad yall have actually messed up. I have enough screenshots to start ending yalls career!! Slowly but surely! Amazing what the internet can do for you! Reply To TurboTaxBob and TurboTaxLisa, Hang in there! It wouldn’t be a bad thing for many of these gripers to leave TT – they’re the ones who complain about everything! There seems to be a lack of appreciation for how much easier it is to file one’s taxes with today’s software, TT or other. It’s amazing that you have the patience to answer the same questions over and over. To the complainers, First…read! Your question has likely been answered. Second, go get the paper forms and do the work yourself and see how fast you get your return. P.S. The spelling errors make me weep… Reply WOW…some of you need to get a grip. How is it TT fault? They do not set the processing dates the IRS does. Get over it. most of you probably filed for free. SO just wait you will get your money eventually…. Reply Lets see if this post makes it through seeing how none of my others have, funny huh… Just want everyone to know that I just refiled my federal with TaxAct and my return was accepted in less than a min. TT you are a joke! Reply Sorry Turbo tax, I will be going somewhere else next year. This has confirmed it for me this year and probably a lot of other faithful return customers. If we could atleast know whats going on I may have stayed, but not no more! Reply Hi MD, Sorry you feel this way, but no matter what tax provider you used, we all found out that the IRS could not accept form 8863 until 1/28. As soon as we found out we posted it publically. Hopefully you have read and taken note of the dates on the IRS announcements so you will understand. In case you didn’t see the announcements, here they are: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Returns-Claiming-Education-Credits-by-Mid-February http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Tax-Returns-with-Education-Credits,-Depreciation-Next-Week Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Reply This is BULL!!! For One, TT is wrong, yall should have made a necessary update to inform us that we would have a waiting period as soon as yall found out. Even if it would have been making a popup at start-up of program. Next, there are others receiving their refund. TaxAct, and some with TaxSlayer. This is NOT fair. If this is the case, i would rather pay TaxAct. I was debating on going to them anyway, but this year, has made it official! Three, Last night all the updates came in with all the forms, And yes, I go into the program to check, and it still says pending! that’s ridiculous. Out of all those updates, nothing still works? This is not an IRS thing. I believe it was for a while, but you all are holding out. And im not guessing why, But what i do know is, you have a bunch of unhappy customers. And if we all have to leave and go to someone else. It shall be done. I dont care if yall think yall are cheaper, still doesn’t matter, ill pay a lil extra for a Piece Of Mind!!! Now really someone needs to get on their job. Making excuses on here is not gonna help. Ive read at least 3 different excuses that still dont add up. So please spare me the Im sorry speech! Reply Yep!!!! A bunch of updates last night!! The 6th….and still I have 2 returns I did for fam…in pending!!! And one in accepted since the 29th…and NO MOVEMENT!!!! Bad bad!!!! Reply Hi Romeo, No excuses at all. This is an industry wide issue. Tax Act, Taxslayer, H & R Block can not submit tax returns with the education credits either. Not sure if you read the IRS update stating that they will be ready to accept tax returns containing form 8863 on 2/14 and no sooner. As soon as we found out from the IRS that they could not accept form 8863 we made that information public. We also posted the latest information on Friday. Here is the latest IRS announcement for your information http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Tax-Returns-with-Education-Credits,-Depreciation-Next-Week Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Reply I did file with the form 8863 last year and I got it on Feb 11th. I have never been so stressed out about receiving my taxes until this year. I planned on going out of town in March because I have always gotten my taxes back before March. I am very upset with the IRS and the lack of communication. All they have to do is let us know what is going on. Reply hi just voicing my opinion…. for those with issue that’s your business but you have no right to tell people they shouldn’t complain cuz you don’t know their situation just because they not telling everyone don’t mean they don’t problems. its just the principal of the whole operation…everyone want anwser Reply I filed on January 31 and mine has not yet been accepted because of the education credit. Perhaps the delay is so the IRS can confirm that a student actually completed their semesters before they get the credit because many begin classes and then drop out when they get their student refund checks. At least that was the case at the university I attended. Hoping mine gets accepted soon! Reply The delay is not so that the IRS can confirm a person is in school. The delay is because of programming these many forms into the IRS system. Reply I am curious how much confusion would be cleared up if for example my stairs page shows relieved by tax authority the a.m of jan 28. TT says on that page the “pending” status will be updated in 24-48 hours. I see a lot of blame on IRS, but why is the TT status page misrepresenting status time frames and updates? Why doesn’t it just say “unknown” instead if 24-48 hours?!?! Every time you ask about this specific issue, no response. Oh, and the IRS still says I don’t exist. (Night of Feb 7th. More than ten days since TT says the IRS has them ) Reply I have to totally agree .. and after using TurboTax for almost 10 years .. this will be the VERY LAST time I us them … Problems I can understand .. but canned and misleading answers force me to change.. My return with NO educational deductions .. was submitted on the 26th Of Jan… and is still PENDING…on the 7th of Feb.. and of course TT cannot give me any explanation . . Bob Meighan, VP TurboTax or Turbotax Bob ..and TurboTax Lisa really should get jobs as BS artist .. but then again they are not even good at that .. Reply Yep!!!!! I agree!!!! And FYI… TT AND IRS had a inch of updates last night!!!!! Check your WMR status daily.. Hi, Although you filed on 1/26, as you know your tax return was submitted on 1/30 when the IRS began accepting them. For more help regarding the processing of your tax return please read our blog on the refund processing http://blog-turbotax-intuit-com-prelaunch.go-vip.net/2013/02/08/4-steps-from-e-file-to-your-tax-refund/ Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Lisa, This still does not address where my taxes have physically been. TT provided a specific status in January that my taxes were physically with the IRS, yet a couple days ago TT sends me a message that they are “sending” my taxes on 2-14. So where EXACTLY are my taxes physically because one of these is not the truth and I need a firm answer to decide how I will proceed personally regarding the poor business/customer service has,and is, providing. As it stands and with with that response you provided that never addressed my specific question, I feel I have just paid almost 100 dollars for dishonesty and worry. Worry about the most personal of documents a person entrusts to a stranger. It is only “logical” a customer should know what is physically going on with these sensitive and personal documents. Reply Lisa & Jm The returns that would be at the IRS would be the ones that were accepted before the IRS found the issue with Form 8863 on 1/28. For example I filed my return on 1/12. It was sent by TurboTax to the IRS on 1/24 and accepted by the IRS on 1/25. I hope that this helps to explain it some. My return was one of the test ones and come Feb. 14 that will be 22 days that I have been waiting for my refund. Paul, today is the 14th! You’ll be able to quit whining about this tax situation soon! you’ll be left to whine about your normally sad life instead! Hi JM, If you had form 8863, all of your tax information is securely held on our servers until it can be transmitted. You are the only one that can access your information. Everything is password protected. Here is our information on security of e-filed tax returns http://turbotax.intuit.com/support/iq/TurboTax-Topics/Confidentiality-of-E-filed-Tax-Returns/GEN12085.html Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Lisa, I understand that you have had to answer the same question over and over but there is one piece of information that I need some clarity on. I understand that tax returns with Form 8863 will not be processed until Thursday. The problem I have is that on the Find Your Refund app it shows a refund date before February 20, yet when I go to the IRS Where’s My Refund site it shows that it is being processed and was accepted early before the glitch on the IRS’ end was discovered. Did the IRS return all originally accepted returns back to TurboTax or are they actually holding those returns until they can officially be worked on February 14? I filed my taxes on 1/26/13 and it still says pending in the ten years ive used turbotax thus is the first time my tax return has been delayed. Very disappointed Reply Hi, I am not sure if you are aware, but the IRS did not open and begin to accept e-files until 1/30. Hopefully you heard something by now, but please use this support FAQ to help https://turbotax.intuit.com/support/iq/Efile-status/Check-the-Status-of-Your-E-filed-Return/GEN12476.html?_requestid=137955 Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Reply TurboTaxLisa: You stated “but the IRS did not open and begin to accept e-files until 1/30.” This is an outright LIE to your customers. My return was sent by TurboTax to the IRS on 1/24 and accepted by the IRS on 1/25. I like many were a part of the test returns sent to the IRS. Also the wording is that the IRS did not start processing refunds until 1/30. Slowness by the IRS is expected. Outright lying to customers is a total different thing. Turbo Tax does MILLIONS of returns each tax season. There are around 3 MILLION of us waiting on Form 8863 so I would assume that you will lose at least that amount because of lies. I would go on but do not want to show more lies to us customers. Paul Hi Paul, That was not a lie. 1/30 is the official date that the IRS opened to accept tax returns. I am not going to comment on a test date as that is not an official opening date that was announced by the IRS. We have to follow the IRS opening dates. Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis TURBO TAX is the only ones that having the problem i have 2 friends that did there on HR block and tax slayer after me and they both got there back one on Saturday and the other one got there today 🙁 it not TT not all 🙁 Reply Really? Well that is ridiculous. I am sick of waiting for my money. Wish I would have done them elsewhere… Reply just so everyone knows, i went to HR block today and filed mine without the education credit and it was approved and efiled. So turbo Tax just missed out. Everyone should do the same thing. They should have let us go back in their system and change the forms, instead of bsing everyone. Bob is just plain rude. Reply Hi Debbie, Per my reply. This is not a good recommendation. The IRS will begin processing tax returns with form 8863 on 2/14 (just a few days). Individuals who have filed with that credit will receive their full tax refunds much sooner than the 8-10 weeks it takes to process amended tax returns which can’t be e-filed our tracked in IRS Where’s My Refund. As you said H & R Block could not submit your return with the education credit either since this was an industry wide issue, which we updated everyone about as soon as we found out. Just as we updated everyone about the IRS announcement to begin processing tax returns with the education credit. Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Amen to that Debbie! I sold my house last year and bought a new one. Turbotax didnt ask me anything about the sale of my house. The only question i had was if i received the First Time Home Buyer Credit. Should i have filled something else out regarding the sale of my house? Reply Hi Andrew, In the beginning of the program there is a checklist that you fill out that ask questions like did you buy or sell a home. Depending on what is checked off the program will ask you questions relevant to what was checked off. You should be OK because if your gain on the sale of your principal residence is up to $250,000 if single and up to $500,000 if married you are allowed to exclude it from income and are not required to report it. Please see IRS http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesses-&-Self-Employed/Sale-of-Residence—Real-Estate-Tax-Tips Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Reply I am not sure why all reos have dIsappeared but from sounds of It turbo tax Is only ones havIng an Issue. no orher tax place has a hold up for thIs to be a natIonwIde problem. Reply That is not true – I have spoken to HR block and they are experiencing the same. The rep actually advised me not refile with them and to remain in pending status. She also stated that the IRS has told them they will start processing 8863 filers on the 15th of Feb. This was today! Reply Turbo Tax is full of it!!! I will never use them again!!! I filed on 1/16 and it STILL says “pending”. Reply Hi Annie, Even though you filed on the 16th, the IRS did not open for e-filing until 1/30. You have to start counting the process time from 1/30. Hopefully you have heard something by now, but if not please see this support article to help you https://turbotax.intuit.com/support/iq/Efile-status/Check-the-Status-of-Your-E-filed-Return/GEN12476.html?_requestid=137955 Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Why is TT not acknowledging legit questions of why they have conflicting information on our status pages than on this site? Has anyone heard if there is some sort if pending action that caused all the reps who were answering questions to disappear? Reply Hi Jim…I think its because they have no answers for us. They just wanna continue to collect the money for fees instead of providing valuable information. Reply HI Jm, I hope you have received an update regarding your tax return. If not here is a support article to help you figure out what to do if your tax returns still shows as pending https://turbotax.intuit.com/support/iq/Efile-status/Check-the-Status-of-Your-E-filed-Return/GEN12476.html?_requestid=137955 Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Reply I really do wish people would read any of the 100+ posts before asking the same question over and over again, especially since that question has already been answered. http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Returns-Claiming-Education-Credits-by-Mid-February. Happy Tax Season! Reply Thank you D, And we updated today as soon as IRS made a new announcement http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Tax-Returns-with-Education-Credits,-Depreciation-Next-Week Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Reply The only question I have is this. My return was actually accepted by the IRS on January 24, during the testing period when they did the initial tests on their systems. What did they do with the ones that had already been accepted prior to this glitch that caused the delay being discovered and what is the likelihood that those returns will be the first to be completed for processing. Lisa, People are so tired of hearing everything that has been going on and how sorry you guys are a Turbo Tax. The notice you guys posted said that form 4562 will not be ready til Sunday the 10th yet a friend of mine used that form yesterday (friday) and his form went through. Another one is a couple of days ago a person I know works at HR Block and said that they have been sending in returns with 8863 and getting refund deposit dates back. This has been crazy from the beginning and with Tax Act, Tax Slayer, HR Block and how knows what others sending returns in with these two forms and getting them accepted and refund dates what again are we to believe. I do not believe that Turbo Tax gives a crap about what is going on. My return was accepted by the IRS on January 24th and now will sit till February 14th if it gets finished on that day then I will have to wait 21 days for a refund. In total that is 43 days. I have always went with Turbo Tax but no more will I go. I did my parents return this past Wednesday, simple return, and still no refund approve or refund sent. Now I will let a cat out of the bag before I am done. People our returns done through TT are not sent to the IRS 1 by 1 but sent in batches when they see fit to do it. Im done with TT and will go with the Millions of people who are switching…later I can’t believe everyone is blaming TT for tax delays, when this situation was caused by our government. I have been using TT for 4 years and have never had any issues. This year everyone desperately needs their money, (including me) and blaming TT is not the answer, the GOVERNMENT is the reason for the delay, it clearly states this on the IRS website. If you look at the website and read you will see the dates for when forms are being accepted. I don’t have any issues with the delays because I did file the education credit 8863 and understand that the IRS will begin accepting these on 2/14. However, I do have an issue with TT’s customer service. I called to ask a question about a change I wanted to make and held for 25 mins. Before getting an Indian who could not help me, I was then transferred to another customer service rep and held for another 25 mins. This customer service rep sounded as if she was in high school, reading a script, instead of answering my questions, I had to keep repeating myself for her to answer my question. In all I spent 1 hour and 5 mins. on the phone, which is ridiculous. And according to their commercials their phone calls are supported by CPA’s, NOT. Reply Hi Felicia, Thank you for your comment. Your question was a customer service issue. If you have an actual tax question you will be transferred to a CPA, enrolled agent, or tax attorney. When they answer a tax question they will send you an email about the question, answer, name of tax expert, last digits of PTIN, and licenses. Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Ok so my return will stay in pending mode until the IRS is finished with their doings so when can i expect anything and how will what they are doing effect my return? I know if we dont file on time we could have problems and this is just not right for them to make us what on them if we do not make them wait on us. Reply Tammie Fay, what other preparer did you use? I have one of those forms that won’t be processed until mid feb or march. Screw that. I’ll omit it and forgo the deduction. I need my money like NOW. Reply Turbo Tax was late in telling customers and potential customers about the problem with these form. The knew about it on the 28th but chose to wait to tell anybody on the 30th. It is just plain bad business practice and false advertising. They have these forms 8863 or 4562 done so why wait 2 days on 4562 and 6 days on 8663? What is the reason for it? Reply For starters your government is BROKE! Everyone one I know got there refund back using form 8863. For some reason TT is the only people who hold your taxes till they are good and ready to send them. Never again will I use turbo tax 100.00 down the drain for me to wait almost 4 Weeks for something that takes only a damn week. Heather, I am with you on that. I have done my returns for years on turbtax and this will be my last. Too much confusion, lies, irate and rude representatives on the phone. Paul First and last time of Turbo Tax — Federal is still pending submitted January 29th. 48 hours from January 30th, when supposedly IRS was accepting the fiing, and still in pending status. State supposedly submitted, yet I waited 72 hours and they show no record of it. Site is a joke — lesson learned! Will be contacting credit card company for refund of undeliverable merchandise. Reply I am lost. We filed our taxes on the 1st of Feb and we are still pending. I have read that there are people who filed after us who have been accepted or rejected. What is going on? Should or do we need to call someone? OR is it all going to happen on the 15th like I just read?? Reply My state was accepted, but my federal wasn’t due to the Ed. Credits. Will I still get my state refund though my federal is pending because the “where’s my refund” link has no info on me. Anyone know ? Reply My state was accepted and it took 5 days to show up on WMR. Took another 4 to tell me I would get my deposit on the 13th. I guess we will see on the 13th! Reply TT should get their stuff together because it sounds like they are losing a lot of money from ppl who are refilling somewhere else. I filed jan 29, fed still says pending, state was accepted Feb 2. I called IRS today and they would only say that they can see my return processing but she couldn’t get IN THERE to look at it??? Yeah ok. I didn’t say anything about my 8863 form n she didn’t either. I don’t think they really have my return or why wouldn’t they be able to look at it? Duh. IRA said to just wait another week n check back on WMR n see what it says then. Hmmm PS state refund isn’t showing up on the state WMR page for LA. Says they have no record of it Reply Has the IRS given a date they will accept a return that has education credits? I have heard the middle of February and I also have heard 07 February(today). Which one is it? Reply What TurboTax does NOT tell you is that IRS is NOT accepting any returns that include a depreciation deduction. They have you authorize payment to them, then let you know your returns (federal/state) will simply sit in TurboTax queue until such time that IRS accepts returns with depreciation deduction. Also, don’t pay for any UPGRADES. They are NOT necessary. TurboTax is really scamming people this year. I am totally shocked. Reply I had file taxes on jan13 TT accepted on jan24 But for some reason the IRS keep saying no information found I keep trying everyday what do that mean it show all accepted with turbotax but Iranian can’t track it Reply My state return has been accepted, but i havent heard anythin about the federal, why is that? How long will it take to recieve anything from federal? Reply Anyone have any news on 4562 form being processed? Reply Hi jesse – The IRS made the announcement officially today. They will begin processing returns with that form on Sunday the 10th. http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Tax-Returns-with-Education-Credits,-Depreciation-Next-Week Thanks, Karen Reply I didn’t have an 8863, I filed mine on 1/30 and had a 1098t. Mine is still showing pending? Should I be concerned?? Reply Hello brinthecity – If you filed a form 1098-T that triggers the Form 8863. So, it might be the case that yours is one of them. The IRS made the announcement today that they will begin processing returns with that form on Thursday the 14th. http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Tax-Returns-with-Education-Credits,-Depreciation-Next-Week Thanks, Karen Reply Wow…there will be many more issues with people’s taxes since people are frustrated and trying to make changes. Let well enough alone and wait for the IRS to process. I too am very frustrated and also need my money however it is not a Turbo Tax issue. I too am dealing with FAFSA deadlines and wish my sate could at least be processed but can do nothing but wait. Reply I am confused, I had to resend my State taxes 2 times because my Federal has been on pending. Just found out my State taxes are no longer pended but my federal still is. I am trying to figure it out Reply Hi- That’s not uncommon. The state and federal are processed separately by different agencies, your federal should be accepted soon. If you have education credits, the IRS will begin processing those on the 14th. Thanks! Barb Reply Me too my was pending since the 29th got tired of it won’t use them next year apply through another preparer my was accepted today. Reply I submitted mine on the 31st of Jan. A day later, my state was accepted. My federal has yet to be accepted! Arrrgh! Anyone have a clue as to why there is the delay in even ‘accepting’ mine? Reply I’ve no clue go on the IRs.gov website file my also on the 29th try another preparer and it was accepted. I also can use MY Refund to track my refund guess TT will rejected it . Reply Is there a reason why i have not gotten my accepted notice i filed on the 30 of january Reply OMG it’s magic. I filed with HR Block today, and right after the IRS accepted it, TT sent mine it. Wow. Well guess what. Too late. Stop it now. I have tried and tried to contact you and you just keep ignoring your customers. Reply How do you cancel a TT efile and take a TT return and file with HR block. Thanks. I am just worried about doing something wrong and having IRS coming down on me. As soon as I get this refund, I have to file an amended return. Got a 1099 after filing. Reply Hi Deb…I filed my return w TT on 1/16 and it STILL says pending as of this morning. Its fine because I filed w another co last night and it was received by the IRS and im waiting for it to be accepted. And i didnt include the 8863 form. So TT WILL NOT get their $100 from me. Reply Yep, just had to take to bull by its horns and drive it ourselves. I didn’t care about the extra 25.00 and turbo tax wouldn’t let me change it. Well HR Block sure did. how did you know TT sent your return? I want to refile but my state was already accepted thru TT BUT it’s not showing up at the state WMR. When did you first file w TT? Reply Did u file the edu credit? Reply An HR Block representative told me NOT to refile until rejected. If pending or accepted it will be filed twice. Reply TT hasn’t filed our taxes forms yet, they are just sitting there ideal until the IRS is ready to accept the 8863 forms, therefore we can go anywhere we want and file them up until the time the TT systems sends them to the IRS. I decided to take mine to HR Block today, they efiled them right away, without the Education credit. What will happen now, it that when TT send the in to be efiled they will be rejected because they are already done by HR block. TT is just trying to not have a nightmare on their hands by letting everyone re do their taxes and get them earlier. I am not the only one that has done this. TT just wants us to believe that our taxes are already at the IRS, but if that was true, then mine would not have went thru today with HR block. Hmmmm. Sound fishy? Yep. Hi Debbie, Yes, as you said H & R Block filed your return without the education credit, which is why it went through not because TurboTax is not telling the truth. You filed your taxes with TurboTax including the education credit. If you did that with H & R Block they would not have been able to send it either. We would rather you get your maximum refund and not have to amend your tax return. Amended tax returns can take 8 to 10 weeks for the IRS to process and you can’t e-file them or track your tax refund. Education credits will begin being processed next week on 2/14 so taxpayers that filed and kept that credit in their tax return will have their full tax refunds much quicker than 8 – 10 weeks. Hopefully you won’t be charged to do the amendment either. We are all about just doing what’s best for our customers and the best, most logical decision is to wait a few more days when the IRS begins processing on 2/14 so you can get your full tax refund sooner instead of amending tax returns and waiting 8 – 10 weeks for a full tax refund. http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/About–Where%27s-My-Refund%3F-. Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis ok Lisa so answer this when the 14 strikes at 12am will TT send over all the tax returns with education credits then or is it lined up by number? please dont ignore my question I think you and your coworker are missing the point… you have given multiple messages most of which were conflicting. For example, you said that if we took our taxes elsewhere they would be rejected becuase or SSN was already used but we know that is not the case becuase you have not filed our taxes yet….you just know how much money you will lose by people taking their taxes elsewhere. Most of your replies have been slanted and misleading when all you needed to do is apologize. Now you tell people what is “logical” as if they are not bright enough to figure out what is best for them and their families. I agree that some poeple have been out of control but Turbo Tax has not handled this situation well at all. You could not control the delay but you could control your response to it and you did poorly. I along with many others will not use Turbo Tax again. OK, my Kentcuky state return was accepted today – 4 days after e-filing with TT. I feel a little better now, but confused because there was an earlier post by a TT representative saying that if your federal return is delayed because of education credits then your state return would be delayed also. Apparently not the case – hmmmm……somebody needs to get their facts straight. Reply Why is every comment I generated over the last couple days, awaiting moderation? I spoke politely and from a logical perspective. Yet many posts are bashing those concerned, and even using words like “pathetic”. Could someone explain the guidelines on comments being approved/ rejected? Reply Hey Paul, I just went to the HR Block website and filed mine without the education credit, it was filed and accepted right away. I am done with TT only because they wouldn’t allow us to go in and make changes. So when they go to file mine, it will be rejected and won’t get paid. I’m done. Reply P.S. I forgot to put in that HR Block received this email yesterday, 2/6/2013 Reply Paul,I was reading your comment and wanted to get some answers aswell so I just talked to HRBlock customer service, And I talked to jennifer, she said that they did recieve a email from the IRS saying they will start taking returns with the Form 8863 on Ferruary 7th and start processing them next week. Also another thing I found out by jennifer is that if the return is still in a pending status, it can be pulled and if there is a mistake on your taxes you can pull them to fix it and just resmitt it back through. But once they are accepted from the IRS that is when they can’t be fixed. This is the first time I have used Turbotax, and I think it will be my last. every year I have used HRBLOCK and will be going back to them next year. Hope this helps Reply Hi Upset, That information is not correct. If your taxes are still pending you can not change information that has already been submitted to the IRS unless the return is rejected. If you change information on a submitted tax return that has not been rejected or accepted and is still pending the you will get an error message that someone with the same social security number already filed. Once the tax return is rejected you can just go in and fix it. If the tax return is accepted you have to amend the return. Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Paul – read my post above Reply Cynthia, Thanks for the information. I guess that tomorrow the 8th I will start checking to see if mine has been accepted yet. No turbo tax reps are responding to questions on here anymore so I would say that shows how customer oriented they are. I will also be going someplace else next year. Thanks Paul http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/List-of-IRS-forms-that-1040-filers-can-begin-filing-in-late-February-or-into-March-2013 PAUL!!! – click on this!!! Reply I have education credit as well but its the 1098-T form… is my refund still going to delayed till end of February?? Reply Hi kolson- Unfortunately, yes. The information you entered from your 1098-T transfers over to the ITS form 8863, which is the form causing the delay. On the positive side, I have noticed that the IRS is processing refunds very quickly this year. Thanks! Barb Reply Does anybody know when they are going to start accepting returns that have education credits? I filed on Jan 31st and still have not been accepted. Reply h and r block said as of feb7, 2013 they were accepting and processing because of the emial that they got from the IRS stated they are now accepting and processing federal with education credits. TURBO TAX IS LIEING TO U Reply Hi Jesse, Please see the IRS announcement made today regarding form 8863. IRS is accepting the form beginning 2/14 http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Tax-Returns-with-Education-Credits,-Depreciation-Next-Week Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis I have read that same information from the IRS. I do not know why Turbo Tax is treating people that way that they are. My sister went in and did her return at HR Block with Form 8863 and she has a deposit date 2/12 and to top that I talked to a neighbor of mine who told me not to go through Turbo Tax but to go through Tax Act because he did, with form 8863, and even showed me his WMR page. Why cant people just say the truth. I spoke to a rep at HR Block this morning and she stated they have been instructed to resend them on the 15th. She also stated that I should NOT refile thru them or anyone else. Pending status indicates it is holding to be processed. I really felt like she knew what she was talking about – too bad TT does not have a number to call and get this same info for their own customers Reply My taxes were done January 28th. My state was excepted 5 days ago and my federal still hasn’t been excepted. Today is the 7th. Does this mean there is something wrong? Reply I filed with turbotax on the 01/23/2013 and they said it looks good and now its the 02/07/2013 and it still waiting it says pending with no answers what gives? Reply Hi Everett- You didn’t mention if you have education credits, but that is the cause of the biggest delays. The IRS will begin processing returns with education credits in mid-February. If you do not have education credits, the IRS is still expecting to issue the majority of refunds within 21 days of acceptance. (They began accepting returns on January 30.) Many people are reporting a very quick deposit once the return is processed. You should hear something soon, with a deposit soon after. Thanks! Barb Reply Does anybody have a more specific date than “Mid February” for when the IRS will start accepting returns with education credits? Reply I filed my tax return on Jan. 26th and today my return is still in Pending status. I have a college student so i am sure that is the reason for the delay. but, what happens when you have a dependent child and the absent parent is saying he/she will file the child on their tax return and he/she shouldn’t that year? Since my return is bing held for the school credit how can I insure my child isn’t being claimed by the absent parent and has his return already? I am afraid that when the IRS does approve my return that my child would have already been filed for the year by the absent parent. Reply Hi Tamara – First, know that the custodial parent is the one entitled to the dependency exemption, regardless who files first. If the other parent files first claiming the child, the IRS will kick yours back to you and you will need to print/mail the return. When the IRS receives it, they will send a letter to you and the other parent asking for clarification. Because you are the custodial parent and have supported your child, you will be the one who is allowed to claim him/her. The other parent will have to pay back any tax benefit received by claiming the child. Unfortunately, this can cause another delay in receiving a refund. Reply Has anyone heard what is considered mid-ferbruary for education credit. February only has 28 days.. so is the mid the 14 or sooner. Reply sasha they are accepting and processing them starting today. HR Block told me that all forms with 8863 are being accepted and processed today because they recieved an email from the IRS that states this. Turbo Tax is the one that is holding them not the IRS Reply If this is tru about the IRS started accepting returns with Form 8863 then they should inform us “Working Americans.” The IRS issued the notice about that form on 1/28 and I did not receive a email about it until the 30th. I work and like many people do not or cannot check my email every day. If it is TT holding them then they need to get off their butts and do it and stop lying to their customers, many of whom I know they will losing. Also I check TaxAct.com and they are doing the same as HR Block. yeah I talked to tt and they just tell me I should get my tax return with in 21 days from the date I filed and that the irs is looking over it or something like that To Paul, Your friends may have filed and showing accepted, but the IRS isn’t going over them until Febuary 14th! They won’t get a refund until after that updated date for all taxes done with a form 8863! I got this information from the IRS website not TT! Someone also stated that TT is holding ppls returns because HR Block said so…lol well tell HR Block to explain why the IRS would put that on their site if they weren’t actually doing it! Read ppl stop listening to others and research and read! Wow: I just e-filed my federal taxes 30 minutes ago and just received an email that my federal taxes have been accepted. Reply You received your tax return acceptance with-in thirty minutes? Did you claim the college credit? Reply Do you have any status on form 4562? I have been conflicting reports on when the form will be accepted. Reply I know this question has probably been asked so my apologies ahead of time. Is there any problem refiling my fed return with TT after removing my educational credit? I was only receiving a $96 credcit. Reply it has been over six days now and my tax return is still pending. i thought it took only up to 48 hours.just want to know how much longer for the irs to accept it or is it normal to wait this long Reply I filed on the 30 jan and mines still saying pending I talk with someone from tt and she tells me that it can take up to 10 days to be accepted by irs. B***S I have filed for tt for the last 4 years and never waited more than 2 days to be accepted by IRS. TT will not get my business next year. I will be going somewhere else. Told yall, TaxAct is better, TT is screwing with us and our money!!! Reply
To TurboTaxBob and TurboTaxLisa, Hang in there! P.S. The spelling errors make me weep… Reply
WOW…some of you need to get a grip. How is it TT fault? They do not set the processing dates the IRS does. Get over it. most of you probably filed for free. SO just wait you will get your money eventually…. Reply
Lets see if this post makes it through seeing how none of my others have, funny huh… Just want everyone to know that I just refiled my federal with TaxAct and my return was accepted in less than a min. TT you are a joke! Reply
Sorry Turbo tax, I will be going somewhere else next year. This has confirmed it for me this year and probably a lot of other faithful return customers. If we could atleast know whats going on I may have stayed, but not no more! Reply
Hi MD, Sorry you feel this way, but no matter what tax provider you used, we all found out that the IRS could not accept form 8863 until 1/28. As soon as we found out we posted it publically. Hopefully you have read and taken note of the dates on the IRS announcements so you will understand. In case you didn’t see the announcements, here they are: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Returns-Claiming-Education-Credits-by-Mid-February http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Tax-Returns-with-Education-Credits,-Depreciation-Next-Week Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Reply
This is BULL!!! Reply
Yep!!!! A bunch of updates last night!! The 6th….and still I have 2 returns I did for fam…in pending!!! And one in accepted since the 29th…and NO MOVEMENT!!!! Bad bad!!!! Reply
Hi Romeo, No excuses at all. Here is the latest IRS announcement for your information http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Tax-Returns-with-Education-Credits,-Depreciation-Next-Week Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Reply
I did file with the form 8863 last year and I got it on Feb 11th. I have never been so stressed out about receiving my taxes until this year. I planned on going out of town in March because I have always gotten my taxes back before March. I am very upset with the IRS and the lack of communication. All they have to do is let us know what is going on. Reply
hi just voicing my opinion…. for those with issue that’s your business but you have no right to tell people they shouldn’t complain cuz you don’t know their situation just because they not telling everyone don’t mean they don’t problems. its just the principal of the whole operation…everyone want anwser Reply
I filed on January 31 and mine has not yet been accepted because of the education credit. Perhaps the delay is so the IRS can confirm that a student actually completed their semesters before they get the credit because many begin classes and then drop out when they get their student refund checks. At least that was the case at the university I attended. Hoping mine gets accepted soon! Reply
The delay is not so that the IRS can confirm a person is in school. The delay is because of programming these many forms into the IRS system. Reply
I am curious how much confusion would be cleared up if for example my stairs page shows relieved by tax authority the a.m of jan 28. More than ten days since TT says the IRS has them ) Reply
I have to totally agree .. and after using TurboTax for almost 10 years .. this will be the VERY LAST time I us them … Problems I can understand .. but canned and misleading answers force me to change.. Reply
Yep!!!!! I agree!!!! And FYI… TT AND IRS had a inch of updates last night!!!!! Check your WMR status daily..
Hi, Although you filed on 1/26, as you know your tax return was submitted on 1/30 when the IRS began accepting them. For more help regarding the processing of your tax return please read our blog on the refund processing http://blog-turbotax-intuit-com-prelaunch.go-vip.net/2013/02/08/4-steps-from-e-file-to-your-tax-refund/ Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis
Lisa, This still does not address where my taxes have physically been. Reply
Lisa & Jm The returns that would be at the IRS would be the ones that were accepted before the IRS found the issue with Form 8863 on 1/28.
Here is our information on security of e-filed tax returns http://turbotax.intuit.com/support/iq/TurboTax-Topics/Confidentiality-of-E-filed-Tax-Returns/GEN12085.html Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis
Lisa, I understand that you have had to answer the same question over and over but there is one piece of information that I need some clarity on.
Very disappointed Reply
Hi, I am not sure if you are aware, but the IRS did not open and begin to accept e-files until 1/30. Hopefully you heard something by now, but please use this support FAQ to help https://turbotax.intuit.com/support/iq/Efile-status/Check-the-Status-of-Your-E-filed-Return/GEN12476.html?_requestid=137955 Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Reply
TurboTaxLisa: You stated “but the IRS did not open and begin to accept e-files until 1/30.” This is an outright LIE to your customers. Paul
Hi Paul, That was not a lie. 1/30 is the official date that the IRS opened to accept tax returns. I am not going to comment on a test date as that is not an official opening date that was announced by the IRS. We have to follow the IRS opening dates. Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis
TURBO TAX is the only ones that having the problem i have 2 friends that did there on HR block and tax slayer after me and they both got there back one on Saturday and the other one got there today 🙁 it not TT not all 🙁 Reply
Really? Well that is ridiculous. I am sick of waiting for my money. Wish I would have done them elsewhere… Reply
just so everyone knows, i went to HR block today and filed mine without the education credit and it was approved and efiled. So turbo Tax just missed out. Everyone should do the same thing. They should have let us go back in their system and change the forms, instead of bsing everyone. Bob is just plain rude. Reply
Hi Debbie, Per my reply. Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis
I sold my house last year and bought a new one. Turbotax didnt ask me anything about the sale of my house. The only question i had was if i received the First Time Home Buyer Credit. Should i have filled something else out regarding the sale of my house? Reply
Hi Andrew, In the beginning of the program there is a checklist that you fill out that ask questions like did you buy or sell a home. Depending on what is checked off the program will ask you questions relevant to what was checked off. You should be OK because if your gain on the sale of your principal residence is up to $250,000 if single and up to $500,000 if married you are allowed to exclude it from income and are not required to report it. Please see IRS http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesses-&-Self-Employed/Sale-of-Residence—Real-Estate-Tax-Tips Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis Reply

That is not true – I have spoken to HR block and they are experiencing the same. The rep actually advised me not refile with them and to remain in pending status. She also stated that the IRS has told them they will start processing 8863 filers on the 15th of Feb. This was today! Reply
Turbo Tax is full of it!!! I will never use them again!!! I filed on 1/16 and it STILL says “pending”. Reply
Hi Annie, Even though you filed on the 16th, the IRS did not open for e-filing until 1/30. You have to start counting the process time from 1/30. Hopefully you have heard something by now, but if not please see this support article to help you https://turbotax.intuit.com/support/iq/Efile-status/Check-the-Status-of-Your-E-filed-Return/GEN12476.html?_requestid=137955 Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis
Why is TT not acknowledging legit questions of why they have conflicting information on our status pages than on this site? Has anyone heard if there is some sort if pending action that caused all the reps who were answering questions to disappear? Reply
Hi Jim…I think its because they have no answers for us. They just wanna continue to collect the money for fees instead of providing valuable information. Reply
HI Jm, I hope you have received an update regarding your tax return. The only question I have is this.
Im done with TT and will go with the Millions of people who are switching…later
I can’t believe everyone is blaming TT for tax delays, when this situation was caused by our government. Reply
Hi Felicia, Thank you for your comment. Your question was a customer service issue. If you have an actual tax question you will be transferred to a CPA, enrolled agent, or tax attorney. When they answer a tax question they will send you an email about the question, answer, name of tax expert, last digits of PTIN, and licenses. Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis
Ok so my return will stay in pending mode until the IRS is finished with their doings so when can i expect anything and how will what they are doing effect my return? I know if we dont file on time we could have problems and this is just not right for them to make us what on them if we do not make them wait on us. Reply
Tammie Fay, what other preparer did you use? I have one of those forms that won’t be processed until mid feb or march. Screw that. I’ll omit it and forgo the deduction. I need my money like NOW. Reply
Turbo Tax was late in telling customers and potential customers about the problem with these form. The knew about it on the 28th but chose to wait to tell anybody on the 30th. It is just plain bad business practice and false advertising. They have these forms 8863 or 4562 done so why wait 2 days on 4562 and 6 days on 8663? What is the reason for it? Reply
For starters your government is BROKE!
Paul
First and last time of Turbo Tax — Federal is still pending submitted January 29th. 48 hours from January 30th, when supposedly IRS was accepting the fiing, and still in pending status. State supposedly submitted, yet I waited 72 hours and they show no record of it. Site is a joke — lesson learned! Will be contacting credit card company for refund of undeliverable merchandise. Reply
I am lost. We filed our taxes on the 1st of Feb and we are still pending. I have read that there are people who filed after us who have been accepted or rejected. What is going on? Should or do we need to call someone? OR is it all going to happen on the 15th like I just read?? Reply
My state was accepted, but my federal wasn’t due to the Ed. Credits. Will I still get my state refund though my federal is pending because the “where’s my refund” link has no info on me. Anyone know ? Reply
My state was accepted and it took 5 days to show up on WMR. Took another 4 to tell me I would get my deposit on the 13th. I guess we will see on the 13th! Reply
TT should get their stuff together because it sounds like they are losing a lot of money from ppl who are refilling somewhere else. Says they have no record of it Reply
Has the IRS given a date they will accept a return that has education credits? I have heard the middle of February and I also have heard 07 February(today). Which one is it? Reply
What TurboTax does NOT tell you is that IRS is NOT accepting any returns that include a depreciation deduction. Reply
I had file taxes on jan13 TT accepted on jan24 But for some reason the IRS keep saying no information found I keep trying everyday what do that mean it show all accepted with turbotax but Iranian can’t track it Reply
My state return has been accepted, but i havent heard anythin about the federal, why is that? How long will it take to recieve anything from federal? Reply
Hi jesse – The IRS made the announcement officially today. They will begin processing returns with that form on Sunday the 10th. http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Tax-Returns-with-Education-Credits,-Depreciation-Next-Week Thanks, Karen Reply
I didn’t have an 8863, I filed mine on 1/30 and had a 1098t. Mine is still showing pending? Should I be concerned?? Reply
Hello brinthecity – If you filed a form 1098-T that triggers the Form 8863. So, it might be the case that yours is one of them. The IRS made the announcement today that they will begin processing returns with that form on Thursday the 14th. http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Tax-Returns-with-Education-Credits,-Depreciation-Next-Week Thanks, Karen Reply
Wow…there will be many more issues with people’s taxes since people are frustrated and trying to make changes. Let well enough alone and wait for the IRS to process. I too am very frustrated and also need my money however it is not a Turbo Tax issue. I too am dealing with FAFSA deadlines and wish my sate could at least be processed but can do nothing but wait. Reply
I am confused, I had to resend my State taxes 2 times because my Federal has been on pending. Just found out my State taxes are no longer pended but my federal still is. I am trying to figure it out Reply
Hi- That’s not uncommon. The state and federal are processed separately by different agencies, your federal should be accepted soon. If you have education credits, the IRS will begin processing those on the 14th. Thanks! Barb Reply
Me too my was pending since the 29th got tired of it won’t use them next year apply through another preparer my was accepted today. Reply
I submitted mine on the 31st of Jan. A day later, my state was accepted. My federal has yet to be accepted! Arrrgh! Anyone have a clue as to why there is the delay in even ‘accepting’ mine? Reply
I’ve no clue go on the IRs.gov website file my also on the 29th try another preparer and it was accepted. I also can use MY Refund to track my refund guess TT will rejected it . Reply
OMG it’s magic. I filed with HR Block today, and right after the IRS accepted it, TT sent mine it. Wow. Well guess what. Too late. Stop it now. I have tried and tried to contact you and you just keep ignoring your customers. Reply
How do you cancel a TT efile and take a TT return and file with HR block. Thanks. I am just worried about doing something wrong and having IRS coming down on me. As soon as I get this refund, I have to file an amended return. Got a 1099 after filing. Reply
Hi Deb…I filed my return w TT on 1/16 and it STILL says pending as of this morning. Its fine because I filed w another co last night and it was received by the IRS and im waiting for it to be accepted. And i didnt include the 8863 form. So TT WILL NOT get their $100 from me. Reply
Yep, just had to take to bull by its horns and drive it ourselves. I didn’t care about the extra 25.00 and turbo tax wouldn’t let me change it. Well HR Block sure did.
how did you know TT sent your return? I want to refile but my state was already accepted thru TT BUT it’s not showing up at the state WMR. When did you first file w TT? Reply
An HR Block representative told me NOT to refile until rejected. If pending or accepted it will be filed twice. Reply
TT hasn’t filed our taxes forms yet, they are just sitting there ideal until the IRS is ready to accept the 8863 forms, therefore we can go anywhere we want and file them up until the time the TT systems sends them to the IRS.
Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis
ok Lisa so answer this when the 14 strikes at 12am will TT send over all the tax returns with education credits then or is it lined up by number? please dont ignore my question
I think you and your coworker are missing the point… you have given multiple messages most of which were conflicting.
Reply
Why is every comment I generated over the last couple days, awaiting moderation? I spoke politely and from a logical perspective. Yet many posts are bashing those concerned, and even using words like “pathetic”. Could someone explain the guidelines on comments being approved/ rejected? Reply
Hey Paul, I just went to the HR Block website and filed mine without the education credit, it was filed and accepted right away. I am done with TT only because they wouldn’t allow us to go in and make changes. So when they go to file mine, it will be rejected and won’t get paid. I’m done. Reply
Paul,I was reading your comment and wanted to get some answers aswell so I just talked to HRBlock customer service, And I talked to jennifer, she said that they did recieve a email from the IRS saying they will start taking returns with the Form 8863 on Ferruary 7th and start processing them next week. Hope this helps Reply
Hi Upset, That information is not correct. Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis
Cynthia, Thanks for the information. I guess that tomorrow the 8th I will start checking to see if mine has been accepted yet. No turbo tax reps are responding to questions on here anymore so I would say that shows how customer oriented they are. I will also be going someplace else next year. Thanks Paul

I have education credit as well but its the 1098-T form… is my refund still going to delayed till end of February?? Reply
Hi kolson- Unfortunately, yes. The information you entered from your 1098-T transfers over to the ITS form 8863, which is the form causing the delay. On the positive side, I have noticed that the IRS is processing refunds very quickly this year. Thanks! Barb Reply
Does anybody know when they are going to start accepting returns that have education credits? I filed on Jan 31st and still have not been accepted. Reply
h and r block said as of feb7, 2013 they were accepting and processing because of the emial that they got from the IRS stated they are now accepting and processing federal with education credits. TURBO TAX IS LIEING TO U Reply
Hi Jesse, Please see the IRS announcement made today regarding form 8863. IRS is accepting the form beginning 2/14 http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Tax-Returns-with-Education-Credits,-Depreciation-Next-Week Thank you, Lisa Greene-Lewis
I have read that same information from the IRS.
I really felt like she knew what she was talking about – too bad TT does not have a number to call and get this same info for their own customers Reply
My taxes were done January 28th. My state was excepted 5 days ago and my federal still hasn’t been excepted. Today is the 7th. Does this mean there is something wrong? Reply
I filed with turbotax on the 01/23/2013 and they said it looks good and now its the 02/07/2013 and it still waiting it says pending with no answers what gives? Reply
Hi Everett- You didn’t mention if you have education credits, but that is the cause of the biggest delays. Thanks! Barb Reply
Does anybody have a more specific date than “Mid February” for when the IRS will start accepting returns with education credits? Reply
I filed my tax return on Jan. Reply
Hi Tamara – First, know that the custodial parent is the one entitled to the dependency exemption, regardless who files first. Reply
Has anyone heard what is considered mid-ferbruary for education credit. February only has 28 days.. so is the mid the 14 or sooner. Reply
sasha they are accepting and processing them starting today. HR Block told me that all forms with 8863 are being accepted and processed today because they recieved an email from the IRS that states this. Turbo Tax is the one that is holding them not the IRS Reply
If this is tru about the IRS started accepting returns with Form 8863 then they should inform us “Working Americans.” The IRS issued the notice about that form on 1/28 and I did not receive a email about it until the 30th. I work and like many people do not or cannot check my email every day. If it is TT holding them then they need to get off their butts and do it and stop lying to their customers, many of whom I know they will losing. Also I check TaxAct.com and they are doing the same as HR Block.
yeah I talked to tt and they just tell me I should get my tax return with in 21 days from the date I filed and that the irs is looking over it or something like that
To Paul, Your friends may have filed and showing accepted, but the IRS isn’t going over them until Febuary 14th!
Reply
You received your tax return acceptance with-in thirty minutes? Did you claim the college credit? Reply
Do you have any status on form 4562? I have been conflicting reports on when the form will be accepted. Reply
I know this question has probably been asked so my apologies ahead of time. Is there any problem refiling my fed return with TT after removing my educational credit? I was only receiving a $96 credcit. Reply
it has been over six days now and my tax return is still pending. i thought it took only up to 48 hours.just want to know how much longer for the irs to accept it or is it normal to wait this long Reply
I filed on the 30 jan and mines still saying pending I talk with someone from tt and she tells me that it can take up to 10 days to be accepted by irs. B***S I have filed for tt for the last 4 years and never waited more than 2 days to be accepted by IRS. TT will not get my business next year. I will be going somewhere else. Good Luck Reply
